This article, however, will focus on the lower receiver assembly, which contains most of the controls that allow you to operate the rifle. It contains the chamber and the barrel, and it's also where most of the accessories go. On top of that, there are lots of AR 15 parts by third-party manufacturers available as well.Īn AR 15 rifle consists of two main pieces: the upper receiver and the lower receiver. While there are dozens of brands and even more variants, the key components are standardized and therefore interchangeable. If the pin does fit, turn the pin over until you hear the detent click into the grove. If it does not fit properly make sure to put a zip lock bag over the lower, and then pull the pin out (so you catch the detent). Once you clear the second hole (not in all the way) make sure it fits properly. Use the pin to push the allen key out (keep it over the detent, do not let the detent fly out). Take the pin and turn it so the grove is away from the detent. Keep the allen key (long arm) pressed against the detent at all times or you will need to hunt down the detent after it takes flight. Pinch your thumb nail with the allen key. Push the detent down all the way with your thumb nail. Insert an allen key (long leg) from the other side (short end should be hanging out the non-detent end. But you can try cutting 3 coils off (do NOT go shorter then half of the detent pin holes!), then put that cut side in first (flat coil on the detent).
